Once upon a time there was
a man they say was wooden
in this boring place at the slowest pace
your mind makes palace of ruin
when he came to town they remember the sound
of the creak his hand made to greet ya
he was old and thick and he carried a stick
he said was from his brother
he tries to mimic the people he sees
emotion doesn't come easily
oddly, peculiar he's afraid of the fire
fingers are too long to fit in the gloves
so he cut the tips and he curled his lips
as he watches the man on the t.v.
he grit his teeth as he plucked his leaves
until nothing resembled the forest
you can hide all you want from the fear in your gut
and eventually eat it for dinner
the seed will grow and in his show
you'll become one of his puppets
"he swears he sees these things I hope there never was
beneath the tourniquet and bound in leather glove
he made a wooden machine to operate his hand
there is no carnival and no wooden man"
if you want to know how I know these things
I watched him from my window
he turned around and stared at me
and waved his arm to come out
he said follow me through the winding trees
to a place that fills your hollow
cause he gathers the low and builds this show
and now he's coming to see us!
